Russian Food Exports to Senegal Increase by 26%

Russian food exports to Senegal in the first 10 months of 2020 amounted to USD 66 million, which is an increase of 26% than in the same period the previous year. According to the Russian Federal Center Agroexport, this rate could potentially double, particularly through increases in the export of grains, fat-and-oil products, fish, sugar and confectionery.

Wheat represents the largest share in Russian agricultural exports to Senegal (98.5%). Over the first 10 months of 2020 it accounted for USD 65 million.

The second-largest export category was sunflower oil (USD 395,000), whose exports in January-October 2020 amounted to 500mt — twice as much as the previous year.

Yeast occupies third position with supplies of 188mt (USD 340,000).

In 2020 for the first time Russia exported 500mt of grist and press cake (USD 191,000) and 16mt of confectionery (USD 37,000) to Senegal.

In 2020, just like previous years, Senegal appears to be maintaining its position as Russia's second-largest export destination in West Africa following Nigeria.

Last year Russia was ranked in 5th place among the largest food exporters to Senegal taking 5.9% of the local market after France (14%), India (6.3%), Argentina (6.3%) and Thailand (6%). In 2020, just like previous years, Senegal appears to be maintaining its position as Russia’s second-largest export destination in West Africa following Nigeria.
