Dr. Alexander Zheltov is a Russian scholar, specializing in African Studies. Since 2010 he is Chair of the Department of African Studies, St. Petersburg State University.

Born in 1967 in Soviet Union, Mr. Zheltov graduated from St. Petersburg University, with African Studies being his major. He speaks English, Swahili and French and authored more than 125 publications on various issues of African Studies, primarily linguistics. His scientific interests include linguistic typology and Bantu languages. Mr. Zheltov organized expeditions to several African countries, among them being Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. He is PhD, Doctor of Philology.

Since 1993 he has been working at the Department of African Studies, St. Petersburg State University. Apart from that he headed of the Department of African Ethnology of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology of Russian Academy of Science (Kunstkamera) in 2010.
